So clearly I can't post without pissing people off. I also may be physically capable of knowingly committing an action that I know will upset someone, but I can't do it intentionally. Hence, blogging about my life kind of fails. However, as I was musing over this today, God brought up a lot of questions in my day's reading. So, I will now be using my blog to post any questions I come up with in my reading. If any of you know the answers, care to comment, or just yell at me about something unforseen, please feel free.
Psalms 97-100
1. In 97:7 it talks about how all gods will bow down to the one true God. Why does the Bible mention other gods in a real way, as opposed to a "don't worship something that doesn't exist" way, if there aren't any? I believe the Bible is true in all things, but I admit confusion on their choice of phrasing.
2. In 98:2 it says "the Lord has revealed righteousness to every nation." I am not sure how to phrase my question, but if the Gospel has not been preached to all the nations, how is this verse in the present tense? Shouldn't it say "will be" instead of "has"? Maybe my understanding is failing with regard to my knowledge of what God's righteousness entails.
3. So, to that extent, how do you define God's righteousness? What does that mean that He is righteous, and that all the nation's are aware of it?
Thanks for any wisdom you can offer in helping me grow. God be with you, Helen

Hey girl...
I am altogether unfamiliar with the conflicts you refer to at the start of this blog, but, as one familiar with offending people without even trying to or knowing it, I can tell you that it happens because we are all walking wounded and people react to things defensively because someone touched a "sunburn" that they didn't know was there (and often times not even the offended person knew was there).
God doesn't command us to try to make everyone happy. Not even Jesus could accomplish that. He commanded us to "love one another" even our enemies.
So when offense happens, apologize and love all the more. It's what will make us shine like stars in the universe to this dark and needy world.
As for your questions, they are good ones. One key to Bible interpretation is that the Bible interprets itself. A question in one place is answered somewhere else. That's why a thorough knowledge of the Bible is such a beautiful thing.
The answer to the first one is found in I Cor. 10:14-22.
The answer to the second question is found in Psalm 19:1-6.
Hope that helps. If not, blog some more, and keep on sharing your life and your love with others. That's what following Jesus is all about.
Your servant,
Tim B.
To add to what Tim said, I think of Romans 1:20 for the second question. I have also found numerous Psalms and prophecies that refer to foreign gods and myths, which are used figuratively to describe God's sovereignty over them. For example, Isaiah 46:1. This could also mean their images, as what happened to Dagon in 1 Samuel 5.
You asked - Why does the Bible mention other gods in a real way, as opposed to a "don't worship something that doesn't exist" way, if there aren't any?
That is a very thoughtful question and one that most people probably wouldn't bother to ask even if they thought of it because most don't bother to pay attention to the details that God has preserved for us in his word.
You also said -- I believe the Bible is true in all things, but I admit confusion on their choice of phrasing.
The fact that you believe that "the Bible is true in all things" will serve you well for you have a right standard to turn to for the answers (Gods' word) even when points might seem confusing.
And it was the ones who claimed to be the most religious that were the most offended by the truth in Jesus' day so if the truth still offends people in our day we should not find that surprising.
